7. Mascots

This project explores the visual and symbolic evolution of mascots used in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It involved the systematic collection and categorisation of mascots, alongside research into their individual features, narratives, and design characteristics.

The graphic book organises mascots by color, treating each character as a visual artifact. Mascots are enlarged, decontextualised, and reimagined through a purely graphic lens to highlight their form, palette, and design logic.

The text book follows the same sequence, compiling factual information about each mascot—such as origin, year, cultural references, and symbolic meaning—providing narrative context to accompany the visual analysis.

Together, the books offer both an analytical and intuitive approach to understanding how mascots represent culture, identity, and storytelling across global sporting events.

The webpage was designed to allow users to sort mascots by color, gender, season, and event type, enabling a personalised and intuitive browsing experience. Each mascot image links directly to its corresponding Wikipedia page, providing easy access to additional context and information.
